How Boiler Finance Works in Scotland
From booking a survey to a warm home — here is how boiler finance works with Scottish Energy Efficiency, step by step. We arrange no-obligation surveys and quotes for paid installations; installation is by our MCS-certified partner. Loans available, subject to status.
Step 1 — Book a no-obligation survey
Everything starts with a survey, and booking one carries no obligation. You can use the form on this page or on our Get a Quote page, or call us on 0141 230 0198. We will take a few basic details — your name, contact number, postcode and what you are interested in — and arrange a visit at a time that suits you. The surveyor needs access to your current boiler, the room or cupboard it sits in, and ideally your loft or tank cupboard if you have a regular or system setup. There is no charge for the survey and no pressure to proceed. If now is not the right time, that is fine — you can come back to us when it is.
Step 2 — The survey itself
The surveyor assesses your home and heating system rather than just measuring up for a box swap. They check the existing boiler, its output and condition, the flue type and route, the gas supply and water pressure, the radiators and any hot water cylinder or tanks. For heat pump enquiries they will also look at insulation, radiator sizes and outdoor space for the unit. They will ask about your heating and hot water habits — how many bathrooms, how many people live there, whether you ever run short of hot water — so the recommended appliance is genuinely matched to your home. By the end of the visit you will understand what your options are and why, in plain language.
Step 3 — Your written quote
Following the survey you receive a written quote for a paid installation. It sets out the recommended appliance, the labour, any pipework, flue or controls changes, and removal of your old boiler — so there are no surprise add-ons later. Where a heat pump or hybrid system is being quoted, the radiator, cylinder and electrical work is itemised too. If finance is of interest, the quote explains the options and confirms that loans are available, subject to status, with a representative example provided so you can see how the figures work. You take the quote away and read it in your own time. There is no hard sell and no expectation that you decide there and then.
Step 4 — Choosing finance
If you decide to go ahead and want to spread the cost, finance is discussed as part of the quote. Loans are available, subject to status, which means eligibility depends on a credit and affordability check. We do not publish rates or amounts on this website because the right option depends on your circumstances and the installation being quoted — a representative example is provided with any quote so the figures are clear before you commit. Finance can be discussed for combi, system and regular boilers and for air source heat pump and hybrid installations. If you prefer to pay upfront, that is of course fine too; the quote is the same either way.
Step 5 — Installation by our MCS-certified partner
When you are ready to proceed, the installation is arranged through our MCS-certified partner at a date that works for you. We install through MCS-certified partners, which means accredited engineers carry out the work to a recognised standard — important for quality and for any future paperwork. A straightforward combi swap is usually completed in a day; a heat pump or hybrid installation takes longer because of the outdoor unit, cylinder and radiator work. The engineers will talk you through the new system, show you how the controls work, and make sure everything is running properly before they leave. Your old boiler is taken away and recycled.
After installation
Once your new system is in, you should notice a difference in reliability and control compared with an ageing boiler. Modern boilers and heat pumps come with manufacturer warranties, and the controls let you set heating schedules that suit your life. If you have any questions after the install, you can come back to us — we are a Scottish company and you are not handed off to a faceless national call centre. To get started, book a no-obligation survey today using the form below or call 0141 230 0198.
Frequently asked questions
Is the survey really no-obligation?
Yes. The survey carries no charge and no obligation. You receive a written quote and can take as long as you like to decide whether to proceed.
How long does installation take?
A like-for-like combi swap is usually done in a day. Heat pump and hybrid installations take longer because of the outdoor unit, cylinder and radiator work involved.
Do I have to use finance?
No. Finance is an option if you want to spread the cost — loans are available, subject to status. You can equally pay upfront; the quote is the same either way.
Who carries out the installation?
Installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner. We arrange the survey and quote for the paid installation.
